2.1 Why doesn't the GermaniumWeb plugin show after I embed it? top
  • This could be caused by many reasons. The most common is the use of a minimized div tag. For the div meant to be replaced by the GermaniumWeb plugin object, use the tag pair
    <div ...>...</div>
    instead of the minimized form
    <div />
    because this will cause incorrect rendering of the web page. For further details, see this article.
2.2 When I view GermaniumWeb embedded in a local HTML file with Internet Explorer, the Information Bar appears. Can I prevent this? top
  • Yes. When loading a local HTML file, Internet Explorer may show a pale yellow information bar (see screenshot below) that says
    To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer. Click here for options...
    and does not show GermaniumWeb.
    The Information Bar displayed at the top of Internet Explorer.
  • Add this line in your HTML file, just after the html tag:
    <!-- saved from url=(0014)about:internet -->
  • See this MSDN article for more information.
2.3 Why do I get the Javascript error ' ''Line 2 Char 1: Invalid character'' '? top
  • On some installations of Windows (depending on the Service Packs and Windows Update patches applied), you may encounter the following error when opening a HTML page embedding GermaniumWeb in Internet Explorer:
    Line: 2
    Char: 1
    Error: Invalid character
    Code: 0
    or
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
    Error: Object expected
    Code: 0
  • This is a security restriction imposed by Internet Explorer. See KB934366 for more information and the workaround.

2.4 Can I place HTML elements on top of GermaniumWeb plugin? top
  • It is not recommended to overlay HTML elements on top of any plugins. In specific cases it may be possible but the solution is usually browser-specific and is sometimes even browser-version specific.
